Transforming Teaching & Learning

The Classes

Play way and Nursery – A Stepping Stone to Formal School

These are the initial years in school. Children join us from age two onwards on their joyous journey to years of fun-filled learning and mentoring.

The Mother Teachers are aware that most students at this stage will display one of the many traits- hesitancy, shyness, aggressiveness, mood swings and are there to comfort, prompt and gently nudge the children. The little ones start taking tentative steps in forming social bonds and learning discipline through boundaries set up by their teachers.

Their growth can be seen through their personal accomplishments during play and learning. Small achievements like learning to hold their writing instruments, prolonged attention spans, interaction with their peers, group learning and independently completed endeavors are giant leaps for the little ones.

Activities in these formative years are based on developing languageskills, communication skills and fine and gross motor skills.

Kindergarten School – The Wonder Years

By age 3+ the young ones have developed a keen sense of competition. They are earnest learners and derive personal gratification and pleasure in achieving tasks laid out by their teacher. We aim at stimulating curiosity and inquiry in order to foster a spirit of discovery and enjoyment of learning by doing. Experiential learning equips students with the skills to learn and acquire knowledge, individually or collaboratively, and to apply these skills and knowledge accordingly across a broad range of spheres.

Although a lot of the learning is theme based and practical at this stage, the students are also learning the rudiments of reading and writing. Their daily repertoire includes number drills and writing, phonetic drill and alphabet reading, and writing both in English and Hindi.

Physical fitness and mental alertness are honed through extensive scientifically approved activities conducted under the watchful eyes of their mother teachers and class assistants.

Primary School– Building upon a Strong Foundation

The primary years in a student’s life are the most interesting. The students between ages 5+ to 10 are extremely receptive, eager to experiment, keen observers, have developed good communication skills and are driven by their intrinsic nature to question, explore and investigate.

The academic curriculum stresses the development of writing skills and understanding of the basic mathematical concepts. All other subjects are handled in a way such that students are the major participants and seekers of knowledge. Rote learning is replaced by self-discovery; students, therefore, retain what they learn. This is crucial for us since a strong base ensures that the teachers are assured that the students are confident of certain basic precepts which can be used to develop and encourage higher levels of thinking and learning.

An integrated curriculum of soft craft activities will be also be introduced in primary school. Students will also have music, drama, self-expression, games and other manifold activities which will keep them occupied and both mentally and physically during the time they spend with us.

Middle School and Beyond…

DPS has opened classes from Kindergarten to Class 5 this academic session. The school will be upgraded by one class every year. Delhi Public School follows the CBSE Curriculum and provides flexibility to each learner to set their pace. In this way, we will be able to achieve students who love to learn rather than those who have to be forced to learn. Motivation to excel has to come from within, and at DPS we believe in the individuality of each child and respect them for their efforts to handle their curriculum. The school and the team of teachers take delight in sharing every successful step taken by the children in their endeavor to attain their goal.

Community Service

In pursuit of our core value to make our students Global Citizens’, we want our student to take life beyond home and school seriously. We will from middle school years, encourage our students to actively participate in community/social service.

Some examples include sponsoring villages and help in educating the youngsters and adults there; help children with special needs; visiting orphanages/ hospitals to volunteer; working with homeless people; participate in greening the city; recycling waste, etc.

The purpose is to sensitize our students to the needs of the community and its members.

Developing a Sporting Culture-A strong mind resides in a healthy body

The desire to play comes naturally to all children and its value is undeniable. The process of playing increases a child’s self-esteem opens a young mind to new possibilities and develops social, verbal, and problem-solving skills. It is indeed as the old adage says: Play Is the Child’s Work. At DPS sports is both integral to scholastic learning and talent honing.

In keeping with our vision of an India where each child is given a fair chance to show their potential, our games fields have been developed by professionals. The school boasts of well developed Track and Field areas, Soccer ground, Hockey field, Basket Ball and Tennis Court. The young ones will have a splash pool of their own to drive away the fear of water before they graduate to the main swimming pool. All the games will be a part of their curriculum.

Environmental Protection- An Irreplaceable Heritage

Nature with all its bounty can recharge, refresh and rejuvenate. This precious gift has to be nurtured and its magnificence has to be safeguarded. Protecting the earth and its limitless gifts comes from learning to understand why Clean and Green surroundings are essential for us to live healthy lives.

Teaching the students from a tender age about their natural surroundings and etiquettes related to conserving what they see around them is the first step towards preservation. Once the little ones learn to see and appreciate the splendors of nature, they will also learn to take care of it. Environmental Studies moves out of the textbook and is handled in a more practical form during the formative years in order that children learn to respect and care for what they have.

Aesthetic Appreciation- Beauty Lies in the Eye of the Beholder

Training the eye to see the beauty in the wonders around them is an important part of the curriculum at DPS. Appreciating the ever-changing visual panorama presented to us every day- the beautiful skies, the green of the trees, the birds that visit our school, the rain and the sunshine, the lovely smell of the parched earth when the first drops of the monsoon rainfall on it…

This then translates into learning to discern good forms of art, poetry, drama, theatre, etc. Children develop interests beyond the curriculum and cultivate passions that may last them a lifetime.

Clubs- Expanding the Horizons

An academic club is a great way for students to expand their minds outside of the classroom. A great example of an academic club is Science Olympiad. The program encourages students to learn more about science through classroom activities, workshops, and competitions. The goal of the program is to get students excited over learning and to find and understand the logic behind subjects like Mathematics, Computer Sciences, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry. These clubs would be introduced from middle school.

Digitalization – Using Cutting Edge Technology in School

For DPS, Information Technology is the driver of Quality Guarantee – NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND – world’s best learning resources and processes to bridge the school-divide and ensure tuition-less, futuristic, all-round education to EACH student. Digital Books (animated digital chapters overlapping with the actual textbooks used in the classrooms; offering a powerful good quality English language environment too).

Digital Classrooms will be introduced in middle school to help children understand better. Digital support not only empowers the teachers and school administrators but also timely handholds each student.
